Pioneering Organic Waste Management Solutions Across Communities
OGIREC Projects
Transforming Waste into Resources through Community-Driven Projects
Learn About Our
Current Projects
At OGIREC, we lead and support a range of projects that address organic waste management, renewable energy, and sustainable agricultural practices. Each project is designed to enhance community resilience, promote green entrepreneurship, and create a model for sustainable rural development. Through collaborative partnerships and hands-on implementation, we’re creating lasting impacts in communities across Africa and the APAC region.
R-Mall Development
OGIREC’s flagship project involves the development of R-Malls (Rural Malls) as community hubs for organic waste processing, energy production, and commercial activities. These R-Malls are equipped with sellable bio-gas systems, solar drying facilities, and e-mobility solutions to empower local entrepreneurs and promote a circular economy.
Key Components:
- Sellable bio-gas Production: Converting organic waste into renewable cooking fuel.
- Bio-Slurry Fertilizer Supply: Providing farmers with organic fertilizers, reducing reliance on chemical imports.
- E-Mobility Integration: Supporting clean transportation for community members and local markets.
- Economic Empowerment: Offering community members, particularly women, entrepreneurial opportunities within waste management and agriculture.
Impact:
Our R-Mall project has successfully created job opportunities, improved access to renewable energy, and reduced environmental degradation in multiple rural communities.
“Back To My Roots” Youth Empowerment Initiative
This unique program focuses on training young agricultural graduates to lead waste-to-value enterprises. Participants learn to operate R-Malls, manage waste processing units, and produce valuable bio-products that serve their communities. Through mentorship and business support, OGIREC is empowering the next generation of eco-entrepreneurs.
Key Activities:
- Training and Skills Development: Participants gain knowledge in waste management, sellable biogas production, and agro-processing.
- Hands-On Implementation: Graduates are tasked with establishing R-Malls, developing operational plans, and engaging community stakeholders.
- Women’s Leadership: Emphasizing opportunities for female agricultural graduates to lead sustainable community projects.
Impact:
The program has created numerous women-led businesses and has brought sellable bio-gas cooking options to homes, reducing reliance on firewood and lowering household energy costs.
Organic Fertilizer Production and Distribution
OGIREC’s organic fertilizer project transforms waste from livestock, markets, and food processing into bio-slurry fertilizer. This organic product is a sustainable alternative to chemical fertilizers, supporting healthier crop yields and more sustainable farming practices.
Key Benefits:
- Nutrient-Rich Fertilizers: Organic fertilizers that improve soil health and enhance crop productivity.
- Local Availability: Bio-fertilizer produced and distributed locally, reducing import dependencies.
- Eco-Friendly Agriculture: Reducing the environmental footprint of farming while improving yields for smallholder farmers.
Impact:
Our bio-slurry fertilizer has become a preferred alternative for local farmers, enhancing agricultural productivity and promoting organic farming across regions.
Virtual Mini Grid (VMG) Expansion
The Virtual Mini Grid (VMG) project supplies off-grid communities with accessible, renewable power using chargeable power packs. VMGs provide electricity for essential services like lighting, refrigeration, and small-scale processing, supporting a range of productive activities within rural settings.
Project Highlights:
- Renewable Power: Power packs charged at R-Malls and distributed to community members.
- Support for Micro-Businesses: Electricity for rural enterprises, boosting productivity and income.
- Sustainable Power Source: Reducing reliance on charcoal and other fuels by providing a clean energy alternative.
Impact:
The VMG project has enabled sustainable electrification in remote communities, supporting businesses and households while contributing to environmental sustainability.
Future Projects and Partnerships
OGIREC is actively seeking new partnerships to expand our reach and impact. As we look to the future, our goal is to scale our R-Mall network, extend sellable bio-gas and organic fertilizer production, and establish more training programs for young graduates and women entrepreneurs.
We invite businesses, NGOs, and government entities to join us in creating sustainable change. Together, we can empower more communities, drive economic growth, and protect our environment.
